To educate girls is to reduce poverty
–Kofi Annan, former Secretary General, United Nations
The Jessie Obidiegwu Scholarship for women and girls is financial need-based, although academic achievement and progress, leadership, community service and civic engagement are considered as well. The award can be used for tuition and books. It can also be used to support students, interns and volunteers from developed countries who wish to work in Africa with non governmental organizations and civil society institutions working on projects related to education, women, literacy and development. A Scholarship Committee drawn from members of the academy, non governmental organizations, faith-based organizations and civil society will review applications and make award decisions.
